This will probably not age well with the pace of change we’re going through, but the following demonstrates our options in Claude for connecting to outside data and integrating it with our own data.
The example looks at EV car sales in the UK in mid April 2026, comparing publicly available data to a fictional car sales company with synthetically generated data.
The demo
A business user asks AI (Claude) about the UK EV Market. We get a standard answer. This part is not really the demo.
But then we ask how this compares with our company’s data and it pulls up data from our semantic model. Now we are showing some additional value for the first time.
We can also take an Excel file and dump it into Claude and use that as additional outside data where Claude does all the joining up. Then we ask for a visual and Claude creates a report on the fly.
This naturally leads to the question of what this means for reports and dashboards — and whether we can save what we’ve built.
This was a demo during my MCP Servers for Conversational BI talk.
