Synthetically generated data is a field that I don’t really have much knowledge or experience in. It was the best way for me to work with data that I felt was interesting and a bit different from other demos.
Research into the field shows how valuable it can be though. In this case it was simply to create data for demos. But being able to create realistic data gives us options in tweaking factors that we might expect to change in the real world data — e.g. what happens if we increase sale prices by 2% based on what sales rates are like for products at that level already vs market.
